Senior Cost Estimator

About this role

BuildRight Construction seeks a Senior Cost Estimator to lead detailed cost analysis and project estimating. You'll translate architectural and engineering plans into accurate material takeoffs and labor projections that drive project profitability and client confidence. You'll own the estimating process from blueprint review through bid submission, collaborating with project managers, field teams, and subcontractors to refine estimates and track variances. This role requires strong analytical skills, construction knowledge, and the ability to work under tight deadlines on complex, multi-phase projects.

Responsibilities

• Analyze construction plans, specifications, and site conditions to prepare comprehensive cost estimates
• Conduct material takeoffs and quantify labor requirements across all trades
• Research current material pricing and subcontractor quotes to ensure competitive accuracy
• Compare estimated costs against actual project results and document variances for continuous improvement
• Present estimates to clients and internal stakeholders; address scope and budget questions
• Mentor junior estimators and refine estimating processes and templates

Qualifications

• 8+ years of construction cost estimating experience
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents, blueprints, and specifications
• Communication skills to collaborate across teams and present findings clearly
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills; attention to detail
• Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., Plan Swift, On Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam)
• Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and labor productivity
